2/4/12 My State of the Fishery Address

My fellow anglers, weekend warriors and distinguished guides.

It's no secret that those of us here tonight have our differences. Walleyecrats, RePerchlicans, live bait, artifical lures. That is what helps set us apart as a nation of anglers.

Here on Leech lake we are poised for progress. Just five years after one of the worst Walleye fishing recessions most of us have ever known, the fishery has come roaring back. Catch rates are up and the fishery is booming again.

Of course, as we speak, invasive species terrorists continue to plan attacks against us. We must remain dilligent and keep these terroristic hitch hikers out of our fishery.

Leech lake isn't just about 24" plus Walleyes, big Muskies and Perch. We are seeing more and more eater Walleyes and an increasing number of Perch in the 11" to 13" range.

2011 was a great year on Leech lake. Together by fishing hard, practicing selective harvest and keeping an eye out for invasive aquatic terrorists, i'm confident that 2012 can be even better.

Thank you, God Bless you, and God Bless Leech Lake.
