2/10/12 'Gills

I told myself I was going to wait and hit up my 'gill hole after Walleye season closed but my work put me in the neighborhood this afternoon so I said what the hey. I caught several dozen 9"-9-3/4" 'gills with smaller ones mixed in. Not monsters but for me those are pretty good sunnies. I can't wait to get back out there and try to break that elusive 10" mark.

Cheers and Hooksets!

2/4/12 My State of the Fishery Address

My fellow anglers, weekend warriors and distinguished guides.

It's no secret that those of us here tonight have our differences. Walleyecrats, RePerchlicans, live bait, artifical lures. That is what helps set us apart as a nation of anglers.

Here on Leech lake we are poised for progress. Just five years after one of the worst Walleye fishing recessions most of us have ever known, the fishery has come roaring back. Catch rates are up and the fishery is booming again.

Of course, as we speak, invasive species terrorists continue to plan attacks against us. We must remain dilligent and keep these terroristic hitch hikers out of our fishery.

Leech lake isn't just about 24" plus Walleyes, big Muskies and Perch. We are seeing more and more eater Walleyes and an increasing number of Perch in the 11" to 13" range.

2011 was a great year on Leech lake. Together by fishing hard, practicing selective harvest and keeping an eye out for invasive aquatic terrorists, i'm confident that 2012 can be even better.

Thank you, God Bless you, and God Bless Leech Lake.

2/3/12 Typical February Bite

Walker bay is still kickin' out a few fish for us each evening. Not fast and furious but enough to make it worth it. I'm sure if you were willing to move around you could get some decent numbers.

Cheers and Hooksets!
